The Sanderson Sisters are back in the sequel ‘Hocus Pocus 2’, after 29 years the witches return to Salem. Last Tuesday (30), a new poster was released and expectations for the new film only increased. In a recent interview with EW, director Anne Fletcher told us a little about what we can expect and revealed that the origin of the witches will be told in a flashback at the beginning of the film.

“The opening sequence of the movie, we get some history of our witches [Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) e Mary (Kathy Najimy)] and Billy [Doug Jones]. I always missed that in the first one. Like, what are the witches the way they are?”, Fletcher says.

The director continues: “I did have that question, and the script came, and I loved the opening 1600s. I pushed that a little bit more, because I really wanted to point at, ever so slightly…. the idea that the 1600s and the now are the same. There’s no difference. I just want to poke at the irony of it. But, in the joy of the film you get to see the young version of them and have a great time and understand the what and why of what happened to them”.
The sequel to the classic will follow Becca (Whitney Peak, “Gossip Girl”), Cassie (Lilia Buckingham, “Crown Lake”) and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo, “American Horror Stories”), three young women who accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern day Salem. After discovering who they really are, they must find a way to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking further havoc on the world.
