Biden re-election campaign takes to TikTok in attempt to reach young voters

Date:

President Joe Biden created a profile on the short-video app TikTok on Sunday, using the NFL Super Bowl to launch his new account as he seeks to reach young voters ahead of the presidential election in November.

As a result, the launch of the campaign on TikTok is notable given that the app, which is owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, is under review in the US for possible national security concerns.

Some U.S. lawmakers have long called for the app to be banned due to concerns that the Chinese government could access user data or influence what people see on the app.

It is worth remembering that last year, the Biden administration ordered government agencies to remove TikTok from phones and devices owned by the federal government.

With this, TikTok stated that it would not share US user data with the Chinese government and has taken substantial measures to protect the privacy of its users.

Biden’s campaign aides said in a statement that they would “continue to meet voters where they are,” including on other social media apps like Meta’s Instagram and Truth Social, owned by former US President Donald Trump.
