Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese has defended the length of his new film Killers of the Flower Moon. According to him, people spend more than three hours watching TV or plays.

“People say it’s three hours, but come on, you can sit in front of the TV and watch something for five hours,” he told Hindustan Times.
“Also, there are many people who watch plays for 3 and a half hours. There are real actors on stage, you can’t get up and walk around. You respect it. Give cinema some respect.”

Furthermore, the filmmaker commented on the recent success of the debut of Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same day. This, according to Scorsese, offers hope that cinema is not dead yet.
“I think the combination of Oppenheimer and Barbie was something special. It felt like – I hate that word – but it was a perfect storm. It happened at the right time. And the most important thing is that people went to see it in the cinema. And I think that’s wonderful.”
He further added that this movement offered “hope that a different cinema will emerge, different from what has happened in the last 20 years, in addition to the great work being done in independent cinema”.
Finally, Martin also vented that he feels upset to see that certain feature films are wrongly classified as “indies”, making it seem like “only one type of person would like” them.
Martin Scorsese’s new film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ stars Leonardo DiCaprio, the cast also includes Robert De Niro, Brendan Fraser, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, among others. The adaptation’s script is written by Eric Roth (Forrest Gump).
The film opens in theaters on October 20th and will later premiere on the Apple TV+ platform.
