When asked about the process, Grant replied: “It was nonsense”.He described the experience as wearing a “crown of thorns”, which was extremely uncomfortable. Famous for films such as ‘A Place Called Notting Hill’ and ‘Love Actually’, the actor explained that he was often in doubt whether he should act with just his head or also with his body. “I never received a satisfactory answer,” he said. “And frankly, what I did to my body was terrible — and it was all replaced by an entertainer.” He added: “It’s very confusing with the CGI now — you can’t tell what’s going on.”

When asked if watching the finished film made it all worthwhile, Grant replied, “Not really,” as his colleagues laughed at his sincerity. Not even the animated approach to the script made up for the experience. “It should be fun, but that was done by the animator,” he grumbled. Jokingly, he admitted that his dislike goes beyond ‘Wonka’: “I hate [making movies] a little bit, but I have a lot of kids and I need money.” Finally, Hugh highlighted something positive about the project, mentioning that it was “a lot of fun playing around and trying new lines”.
