A source told Deadline that journalist Savannah Guthrie deepened the conversation by questioning Amber about how the jury’s decision could get in the way of free speech.

“Even somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t tell me — look me in the eye and tell me — that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation,” Heard said. “You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.”

“Is that a lie?”, Guthrie asked about the beatings. “Yes it is,” Heard responded. Asked about the witnesses who backed up Depp’s testimony, Amber said, “I’ve seen firsthand how people will follow rank and support a person they depend on.”

In 2008, Heard wrote an opinion piece for The Washington Post, in which she reported on domestic abuse, not mentioning her ex-husband. Johnny accused his ex-wife of defamation and filed a lawsuit against her. In turn, Amber said she was defamed by a former lawyer for the actor. On June 1, the Fairfax County Courthouse in Virginia convicted the actors of defaming each other. Giving victory to Depp.
